In the last years, technological breakthroughs have provided a new push to the development of systems that use virtual reality as an interface between the patient and the computer, with multiple uses within the medical field, and more specifically, in the neurorehabilitation area.
The visual stimulation has two roles: oculomotor training and cognitive stimulation, both very important with elderly patients.
The visual and vestibular stimuli are grouped into families according to the involved reflex needed to be trained:
Foveal - Smooth pursuit and saccadic stimuli.
Retinal - Optokinetic stimuli (bars, tunnel and train).
Visuovestibular Integration - Visual and vestibular combined stimuli.
